Meditation for Everyone
The heart of Dharma practice is meditation. The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness. But if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

With lakes, mountains, beaches and beautiful cities, North Carolina is one of the most externally beautiful states in the US, where it is easy to find places of external peace and tranquility.
Many people in North Carolina have material success and wealth and the resources to enjoy the external beauty, but still experience unhappiness, dissatisfaction, anger, relationship dificulties, and the pain of disapointment in never finding a happiness that lasts.
Happiness and suffering are both states af mind and cannot be found outside the mind. Through meditation and training the mind to cultivate real happiness and abandon the causes of unhappiness we can definitely find the lasting peace we long for.

The Kosala Mahayana Buddhist Center is a refuge in the Triangle Area for students interested in the study of meditation and mental transformation. The Center is a member of the New Kadampa Tradtion (NKT), an international Buddhist movement founded by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The NKT transmits Kadampa Buddhist teachings at over a thousand centers worldwide.
The Kosala Center is fortunate to have Fully Ordained Monk Gen Kelsang Tilopa as it's resident Teacher.
There are currently two levels of study offered at the Kosala Center. The General Program is aimed at students new to Kadampa Buddhism, and the Foundation Program provides more in-depth study for those who wish to deepen their committment to personal growth through the study of Dharma. Additionally, we have services (pujas) each Sunday morning and other meditation classes throughout the week, as well as short retreats once a month.
